Director & Cast Announced for Upcoming King Series, 11/22/63, on Hulu

Nothing makes me happier than to see people flooding away from cable TV. Back in the day, cable TV was introduced as the future of television that would be a free service and provide alternatives to network television. Well like most technology, cable TV was snatched up by big corporations and we, the consumer, took it up the ass. The prices of cable TV are staggering and I’m not sure why even more people aren’t abandoning it for the freedom of creating your our “cable TV.”

Now that Hulu and Netflix have entered into the production game, these services and more (Crackle is another one) are offering quality shows. Netflix is releasing their new series, DAREDEVIL, and now Hulu is producing a series based on Stephen King’s 11/22/63. According to Variety.com, Kevin Macdonald  has signed on to direct and exec produce the first two episodes of the nine-episode series. 11/22/63 is coming from JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot and is written by Bridget Carpenter. An English teacher travels back in time to prevent the Kennedy assassination, but discovers he is attached to the life he has made in a bygone era.

James Franco was previously announced to star as the series’ lead, and recently more cast members have been announced. Chris Cooper and Cherry Jones will also star. According to Variety.com:

Franco stars as high school English teacher Jake Epping in the adaptation of King’s best-selling 2011 novel of the same name. The series follows Epping, who travel back in time to try to prevent the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in Dallas on the fateful date in American history.

No word yet on a release date, but if Hulu and Netflix and the other digital platforms start consistently cranking out quality original programming, why does anyone need cable??
